1. Are you pleased with your Tapa Cloth? why / why not?
I am pleased with my tapa because my flower looks like a star.

2. What did you find easy when you were creating your Tapa?
I found it easy drawing my diamonds because I grew up looking at Tapa cloths.

3. What did you find tricky when you were creating your Tapa?
I found drawing my grid tricky because I tried very hard to make sure all my lines were straight and 3cms apart.

4. If you made another Tapa, what would you change and why?
I would like to change my my four flowers in the corner because I’d like them bigger.

5. Who / What has helped you in creating your Tapa?
Keri helped me with my four diamonds in the middle.

I used my flower in my Tapa from Tonga. In my culture flowers represent the beautiful tropical island.

My Tapa cloth reflects on the Pacific ocean linking our countries together. Both sides reflect each other.

My incredible time at Eastern Beach By Deziree

On Monday 27th February the whole school went to Eastern Beach. I was in the first bus by Isabella and we were talking.  We got there and was  told to sit on the grass, but the grass was wet. Mr Johnston was talking about the safety drills. We were eating and waiting for the other three buses. The buses arrived at Eastern Beach and we had to stop eating. Then it was Room 1’s turn to swim with life jackets. They got out and had morning tea. Room 2 had a swim with the life jackets. Room 1 wasn’t allowed to swim with no life jackets. After Room 2, Room 4 swam with life jackets. Savannah brought a Bop it toy. We played with it. Myself, Savannah, Kyra, Yvette and Creedence were playing Bop it. It was Room 7’s time to swim with the life jackets. We had to swim after Room 7 because we allowed to give Room 6 a longer turn. It  was a fabulous  time. We got to swim, it was fun and exciting. We had to have a swim with the life jackets. We got to have a quick snack then we had another swim. My friend Jharda’e was chasing me to Mrs Bruce. She won because she was cheating. We were pulling each others arm. She was in front of me but I called it a tie.  The seaweed looked like sticks but it wasn’t. It was dried out on the beach side. Me and Jharda’e were giggling because she got the water in her mouth. After our turn Room 6 had to swim. We were having a great time swimming. We had to hop out and have lunch. I had  corn chips, cookies, nuggets and water . We were allowed another swim after our lunch . I like swimming. We only were allowed to have 30 minutes left to swim. We had to leave Eastern Beach at 2:15pm. I  fell asleep on the bus. When we arrived back at school we were allowed a quick drink before we went home!!!!

Yes I am very happy with my Tapa because I like the way the patterns are arranged. and I also like it because I put a lot of hard work and time into the Tapa.

I found that drawing my Koru pattern was quite hard to draw

I would change the big pattern in the middle because it is kind hard to draw.

The teacher helped me with some of the parts but I did the rest.

Where did they come from?I used a Koru pattern for the middle. The Koru pattern didn’t come from anywhere I just thought it looked nice in the photo so that’s why I chose the koru pattern.

How to make a Tapa Cloth, By Addnan

...How To Make A Tapa Cloth...
Equipment:
Brown Paper
Pencil
Rubber
Ruler
Vivid
Brown Dye
Bleach
Cotton buds
  • Find a Tapa Pattern That you want to draw.
  • Find a Brown Piece of paper that is 30cm x 30cm.

  • Rule up a 10 by 10 grid (rule boxes 3cm apart on a 30 cm Square piece of brown paper).
  • Draw the Tapa pattern that you found on the brown piece of paper with pencil. {Step 1}
  • Rub out all the lines that you made for the grid.
  • Go over all the patterns with your vivid.
  • Colour some of the patterns in with black vivid.
  • Scrunch it up as much as you can to make it soft, approximately 10 times.
  • Dye the entire paper brown.
  • Wait for it to dry. {Takes about 3-5 hours to dry}
  • Use cotton buds to put bleach on the parts that you want white.
  • Hang the Tapa cloth on the wall to display it.

Eastern Beach


On Monday 27th February  we went to Eastern Beach.The whole school went. We had to  line up on the court. We all sat down, then we stood up. We were walking through the car park and were waiting for  the buses to come.  One bus came  but it wasn’t our bus so we were waiting for another bus to come but it wasn’t our bus. Finally the bus came and it was our bus. Room  6 went on the bus and then Room6 nearly  filled up the bus. Room5 went in the bus but some people couldn’t fit in the bus  so they had to go in with Room7 &Room8. We all left school at 10 o’clock. Room6 & Room5 went to line up on the grass because Ms Kirkpatrick and Mr Johnston wanted to talk to us about  water safety while we had our morning tea.

I had one swim because l  hate swimming in the sea. l had fun at Eastern Beach. l made a sand castle. l also played volleyball, played on the the tree & had lunch. l was eating all my lunch and then someone found a hide out so l  went to climb up but  a  teacher told us to get  down from the hide out  because it was out of bounds .But we didn’t  care. The people that were swimming  had to get out because they had to have lunch so they got out and had  their lunch and  they played  in the water & played in the sand. Then we got told to get out of the water.They went to go and get changed. The whole School went to line up on the grass. It took 10 to 20 minutes for the bus to come. Finally the bus  came. We went back to school. l had a fun day at Eastern Beach!!!

My time at Eastern Beach, By Alazay


Wow what a beautiful day!!! The birds were chirping and the waves were splashing at Eastern Beach. When the whole school went out to the driveway and the buses weren’t there we had to wait. We waited about 10 -15 minutes for the buses and then the buses came. We hopped on the buses and went to Eastern Beach. On the bus all the girls sang songs. When we got there it looked like an island paradise. We played on the sand and built a mermaid, until Mr Johnston said “It is time for Room 5’s ‘turn for the life jacket lesson”. We all started to swim on our backs and on our tummies. Next we had to take the life jackets off and went swimming without the life jackets. When it was time for lunch I had donut’s, cookies, chicken, cheerios, fruit and juice. Next I played on my iPod and listened to music, until it was time to pack up and go back to school.

I won’t put too much Bleach on one spot because it will go too white.

I didn’t use any cultural patterns. I did leaves and they came from Tonga.

The Eastern Beach Picnic. By Rose


Yes! On Monday February 27th 2012, Panmure Bridge School went on a  school picnic. There were some parent helpers like Aryan’s grandmother, Isabella’s Aunt, Cody’s mother and Keri. All of Panmure Bridge School waited and waited for the school bus.  Then everyone thought
that was the school bus, but it was just a car parking. Then the school bus arrived at last. All of Panmure Bridge school went on the bus to go to Eastern Beach. When we went to Eastern Beach we had a snack. After we had a snack we played some games. After that some people went to go and got changed for swimming. First they had to wear some life jackets. I was so happy because I played in the sand with my cousin. After people swam we had some lunch and fruit. After that the bus came and it was time to go. When we were going to go on the bus I said to my cousin “This was the best Eastern Beach picnic I have ever been on”.

On Monday we went to the beach. I went swimming. I like swimming. Mrs Huggins was in the kayak. I played soft ball with Oh Smar. I like going to the beach.

My time at Eastern Beach


Eastern Beach

It is finally Monday February 27th the coolest day yet. I just could not wait to hop on the bus to get to the amazing Eastern beach. First Miss Paton had to do the roll and for the first time, I saw Miss Paton in shorts. Then I was excited for the bus. The bus took forever to come but then we all heard a sound that sounded like a bus. Soon after the sound there came two more buses. There was no luck for us. Then another bus came and it was the school bus to take us to Eastern Beach. Finally, a bus came passed with a word that said school. It was a school bus and then everyone stood up and ran fast to the bus. We were all ready to hop on. Then Miss Paton started to count all the student’s to get on the bus. After the students had got on the bus the bus was all full. Soon after two buses came along, then we had to hop on to the next bus. I hopped on and sat in the bus. Later on I saw a beach and I thought to myself could that be Eastern Beach. Finally we got even closer to the beach. Yes! I said shouting in the bus, we are finally here. I took a look everywhere to see if I could remember anything from last year. The first thing I saw were the Volley ball grounds. But the first thing I saw was the cave from last year. What was that on the corner of the cave? It was the old place that people always use to climb. A few hours later we started to put on life jackets with Mr.Nepia. After that we got to have a free swim with out our life jackets. After we all hopped out we got changed. Tyler and I ran to the changing rooms. I ran really fast to my lunch and ate my terrific roll that my mum made for me. My mum made me three filled rolls and I ate two. Then I walked to Addnan and sat down with him because he couldn’t swim. So I asked him if he wanted some lunch? and he said
“no “because he already had lunch. I felt bored so I played touch with the twins,Tevita, Suliasi, Teagan,Trinity, Henry and Piripi. Mr. Nepia was coaching. I stopped playing and sat with Addnan and watched. I joined in on the game and played with Addnan. I made a new friend. He was Suliasi’s cousin. He said he came from America. I aksed him where do you come from? he said he came from Tonga and America. Soon Mr.Jonston said “If you want to go for one more swim then do so now”. After the kids got out, we all got in a perfect line of clases. We all got up and walked to the buses. This time it took four buses to take us back to school. Later on I went home.

MY TIME AT EASTERN BEACH STORY

Yahoo! we are going to Eastern Beach today. I was so angry when the bus was late. It came about 10 to 20 minutes late. I was so angry when the bus was late. When we went to Eastern Beach we had morning tea. Then we went to play volley ball with Kifi, Mosese, Molia and I. Then we went into the water. We had to do the life jacket activity. We had to touch the kayak. We had to float on our back and on our stomach the water was so cold. Then we got to have free time. After we we had lunch I had a sandwich, it was nice. I hope we go to Eastern Beach next year.

I had such a great time at Eastern beach and here is how it started. On Monday 27th of February the whole school went to Eastern Beach for a picnic. There were lots of teachers and parent helpers that were coming. In our class we had Isabella’s Aunty Eme come, Aryans Grandma, Juliano’s brother Tom and Keri. All the classes lined up in front of their class to get ready. When we went into the driveway there were no buses. I was not that happy because I was really excited, I could not wait to go on the bus. On the bus I sat next to Caitlin and Liantre. It was so boring in the bus, but I was still excited. When we were near Eastern beach everyone on the bus saw flash houses. When we got there I saw nice golden sand with pretty shells and and a big blue sea with a nice hot sun. I was so happy. The first thing we did was eat some morning tea and wait for the others to arrive. When everyone was there Mr Johnston told us some rules to follow and introduced other activities. The sports were Baseball, Rugby and Volleyball. There was also a life jacket drill. The first class to go swimming was Room 1 and the first class that went to go to the life jacket drill was Room 8. When I was waiting to go swimming I sat with my Aunty and Caitlin. When I heard Mr Johnston I thought that Room 5 was going swimming but this was not the case. It was Room 7 that was taking part in the life jacket drill and Room 8 going swimming. When I was waiting to go swimming I played vollyball with Asmah,Nicola and Fine. When we were playing it was weird because there was no net so we just played with the ball. In the middle of the game Miss Paton told Room 5 to get ready to go swimming. When she said that I rushed to my Aunty to get ready I was so excited. I ran to go swimming but I forgot my goggles so I had to go and get them from my swimming bag. When I got back I saw Room 7 getting out and going swimming with no life jackets and Room 8 swimming out. Our first activity was life jacket drill. When I got one it was soaking wet. Mr Johnston showed us how to put on the life jacket. When he was finished talking I put on my life jacket then I jumped in the water. It was like a sea with ice blocks. I was swimming with Isabella and Fine. I got use to the water when I stayed in there. Ms Kirkpatrick,Mrs Huggins and Mr Johnston took turns on a canoe. When we were swimming Ms Kirkpatrick was on the canoe. We got told to go further and further by Ms Kirkpatrick because we were still near the sand so me and Isabella had a race. After we had finished our turn with the life jacket it was Room turn and us Room 5 went swimming with Room 7 with no life jackets. When I went swimming I swam with Leenas and Germaine. When we all finished we got some lunch to eat. We had only got 30 minutes to eat or more. When we were finished Mr Jonhston said that we could have our last swim so me Leenas and Gemaine went to go have our last swim. This time Mrs Huggins was on the canoe and some people even tried to get on it. Then I little while later Mr Johnston said to get out and get changed. So I went to my Aunty and got dressed. After that my Aunty told Miss Paton that I was going home and not going on the bus back to school I was going Mc Donalds and going home to have a shower. Next year I hope to go back to Eastern Beach again.
