How far can your jet propelled cable car travel?

This week we have been making jet propelled cable cars. We first made a rectangular prism and a triangular prism. We glued the prisms together to make a cable car. From there we had to thread a fishing line through a straw, stick the cable car onto the straw and blow up a balloon really big. We attached the blown up balloon to the cable car and let it take off. Tyler did really well with his cable car with a distance of
8 metres. Piripi's, Kifi's, Pace's and Miss Chapman's cable cars travelled the same distance which was 7 metres. Fine's cable car travelled the shortest distance which was 3 metres. It was a fun activity letting the balloon off and measuring whose cable car travelled the furthest.

Making a jet propelled cable car

Today we made a jet propelled cable car. We made these 3D nets first which were: a Rectangular Prism and a Triangular Prism. From there we had thread some fishing line through a straw, stick the cable car roof to the straw and then stick the base of the cable car to a blown up balloon. On the count of five we had to let go of the balloon and watch the cable car travel at great speeds. It was great fun and the cable car went as far as 8 metres. Check out our photographs of this experience.

As an experiment, Miss Paton thought she would take everyone's written instructions and make a collaborative presentation. If this works, we will be using Google Presentations for our next written instructions write up.

Room 5's Paper plane Challenge

Today we had a fun time measuring paper planes on the court. We had to make sure that our foot was touching the yellow line on the court. We marked this line as the take off line. Each student threw their dart and Miss Paton used her chalk to mark the landing point. We found out that Piripi threw his dart the furthest with a measurement of 11.16m and San Tat's dart flew the shortest with a measurement of 2m.

Raymond had the shortest Mintie Wrapper because he didn't take his time and he wasn't patient. Raymond was brand new to this challenge and he hadn't had the experience in ripping wrappers before.
