Should Panmure Bridge School have a cafeteria? By Lavinia

Should Panmure Bridge School have a cafeteria
I believe that we should not have a cafeteria at Panmure Bridge School because. Cafeteria/tuck shops might be all yum with all the fat foods that they provide but do we look at the real question how much are students are eating in the tuck shop

Firstly, To be honest as a Year 6 student I believe that we should not have a cafeteria because. Children may not be allowed to eat the food in the cafeteria or the might be allergic to the food in the cafeteria say for example the oil in the food might be from pigs fat and students might to be allowed to eat or might be allergic to the pigs fat or they may not allowed to eat beef.

Secondly I believe that should not have a cafeteria because. Children can become obese and that’s not good at all. There may be healthy foods in the cafeteria but there may be junk foods in the cafeteria, did you know that 2003-2004 children and teens 2-19 years old were overweight. The students parents want them to be healthy.

Thirdly I believe that we should not have a cafeteria because. It would encourage students to steal money off other children. That would lead to fighting, theft and chaos and many more horrible disasters.  The parents would would get angry at the school from children stealing their child’s money that they gave to them.

Overall I feel strongly that we should not have a cafeteria children might be allergic to the food in the cafeteria, students can become obese and it can lead to theft those are my main reasons why we should not have a cafeteria. Do you think that we should have a cafeteria.

Should Panmure Bridge School have a caferteria? By Cyprus

Panmure Bridge School Have a Cafeteria We should not have a cafeteria at Panmure Bridge School. I feel cafeterias should not have even been invented because some people waste their food and waste their money. This includes students, teachers and even people that work at the cafeteria. My reasons for not having a cafeteria are ingredients in the food, the cost of the food and the distraction of having a cafeteria in the school grounds. Students who may have an allergy may buy something from the cafeteria so they need to know the ingredients of the foods served at the cafeteria. Some students might not be allowed to eat food such as pork and beef and they could be in trouble if they ate those kind of things. Instead of healthy food which makes you big and strong junk food is mostly sold and this makes you fat and it could make you have a heart attack A cafeteria can distract students from doing their work and doing what they’re told because they might be hungry and can smell the food during class. The people that work in the cafeteria might poison the food and it could kill you. It might be too expensive and the poor people like homeless people. can’t afford it You could save money instead of wasting it on food like junk food. Conclusion:I feel we should not have a cafeteria at school. Some students might waste the food and it might waste the parents money. Students who might be on rubbish duty have to pick up wrappers on the ground. Healthy food in your body is important especially if you like eating too much junk food . Junk food is usually sold in cafeterias. Also if you keep showing money to people you might not recognise, someone might steal your money or food. This is my argument on should we have a cafeteria at PBS.

Thomas' argument on Should Panmure Bridge have a cafeteria?

Introduction:
Lets go buy something from the cafeteria. You wait in line and finally its your turn to buy something and that chocolate muffin looks good doesn’t it, but wait how much money do you have? Oh no! you don’t have $4.00 do you? Oh well you have to come back tomorrow

First theme: Theft
Firstly I don’t think that Panmure Bridge School should have a cafeteria because it could increase the numbers of theft and could be an increasing problem and cause a lot of trouble for parents and could increase students to steal if they don’t have any food.

Second theme: Hunger
Some students at this school don’t have enough money to buy foods and if we had a cafeteria it would encourage them to steal. It would be a problem as we do not like people to steal. This could become a bad habit and when they are older they would end up in a dirty smelly cell. They could get beaten up by the other cell mates.

Third theme: Cost
I believe Panmure Bridge School should not have a cafeteria because the students may have to pay more than purchasing goods from the shop. At a cafeteria they might sell a chocolate ice cream for $5.00 but at the shops for $5.00 you could get a whole container plus a packet of sprinkles for that amount. As you can see it could be a lot cheaper at the shops than it is at a school cafeteria.

Conclusion
In this argument I have only told you a few reasons on why Panmure Bridge School should not have a cafeteria such as the cost might be too high, It could increase the amount of theft and it could make more kids hungry.

My argument on: Should Panmure Bridge School have a Cafeteria By Tim

Introduction
I believe that Panmure Bridge School should have a cafeteria because it helps students get healthier and it helps them concentrate on their work.  It could also save money for your parents and yourself.

Firstly, Cafeteria foods are healthier than supermarket foods. The cafeteria can sell healthy foods like Sandwiches, Salads, Fruits, Yoghurts etc. All the supermarket foods sell is chip packets, lollies, Donuts, etc. The foods are unhealthy for the students to eat. Students can get healthier by eating healthy food from the cafeteria. Also it helps you concentrate on your work without getting hungry and distract you from your work.

Secondly, Imagine you’re sitting in class and your stomach is starting to rumble, the bell rings and you rush out the door and go to the cafeteria. You get your food and you eat it and there goes another bell it’s time for class. You’re so concentrated on your work you just don’t listen to your friends. YAY! you finished your work, just in time for lunch, where you can get more food to help you contrate for the rest of the day. This is why a cafeteria would be good because it can provide food to help students concentrate.

Thirdly, It helps someone in the community get a job, so they don’t have to be a couch potato and watch TV all day. They can work all afternoon or they could work all morning. They don’t have to sit around and get fat everyday with chippies in their hand. Working in a cafeteria can help people learn skills like cooking, counting money and customer service.

Conclusion
These are some main reasons of why Panmure Bridge School should have a cafeteria. I think we should have a cafeteria because it can serve nutritious lunches and healthy foods, also you can concentrate on your work without your stomach, distracting you and it can give someone an opportunity in the community to get job.

Yvette's Reading Activity

Ruby Group 1
Title: GHB
School Journal Part 3, Number 2, 2006

Learning Intention
I am learning to link prior knowledge and experiences to the texts I read

1. How do the bagpipes link to historic times?
Patriotic songs were played on the bagpipes to fire up the soldiers when they were at war with England.

2. What are the requirements for playing the bagpipes?
A strong pair of lungs and a lot of air to produce a steady, loud sound on the bagpipes

3. At what age did Nick learn to play the bagpipes?
He was 3 years old when he first heard the bagpipes at a fair, ever since then he wanted to play the bagpipes. He loved the loud noise.

4. What is a chanter?
A small pipe with finger holes on which the melody is played to get used to the fingering.

5. Why was Nick disappointed when he started to play the bagpipes for the first time?
Because only a few squawky sounds came out.

6. How long did it take Nick to perfect his playing?
It took about half a year for Nick to master them.

7. What are some of the activities that have to be co-ordinated when playing the pipes?
*The leather bag has to be inflated by blowing through the blowpipe.
*The elbow has to apply steady pressure so that air can travel up into the drone pipes and down into the melody pipe to produce a sound.
*The melody must be played with fingers of both hands.
*The music must be learnt because you cannot read music when you are marching.
*The drone pipes must be held carefully so that they don’t slip and poke someone in the eye.

8. What events did Nick play for?
*A Scottish dance evening
*A fair
*An opening for a new part of the school when the Governor-General visited.
*Before a rugby game.

9. Why is practising the bagpipes important?
If you don’t play the bagpipes often, the reeds dry out and it’s hard to bring them back to the right moisture level. The drone pipes can also get out of tune if the pipes aren’t played everyday.

10. What are the parts to bagpipes?
*Leather bag.
*Drone pipes.
*Blowpipe.
*Melody pipe (chanter)

11. How many notes are played on the bagpipes?
9 different notes.

12. How is the Queen of England woken up each morning?
The Queen of England has a personal piper who wakes her up most mornings. He plays while walking up and down the castle lawn under her bedroom window.

A fact?
The sound of the bagpipes can carry up to 9 kilometres.

Should Panmure Bridge School have a cafeteria? By Fine

Should P.B.S have a cafeteria?

Introduction:
Pies, sandwiches, apples, kiwis, YUMMY! Obviously Panmure Bridge School should have a cafeteria, but I’m still wondering why we don’t. This is my argument on why Panmure Bridge School should have a cafeteria.

Argument idea 1: Healthy food
If Panmure Bridge School were to have a cafeteria or a tuck shop, students would be much healthier than they are right now because our cafeteria would have the healthy tick. The Healthy tick would provide food which is healthy. Students would get food that is delicious but at the same time nutritious.

Argument idea 2: Jobs
Secondly , if Panmure Bridge were to have a cafeteria, it could give someone in the community a job or if students are helping at the cafeteria, they could learn how to divide money, cook or give back change.

Argument idea 3: Thinking straight
Thirdly, if every student were to buy food from the cafeteria, every child in the school would not be hungry during the day, and they would be able to think straight.

Conclusion:
Overall, three main ideas are mentioned in my argument for why Panmure Bridge school should have a cafeteria. Firstly, healthier food would be provided for the students at Panmure Bridge. Secondly, having a cafeteria could give someone or a student in the community a job and thirdly, when you eat food from the cafeteria you wouldn’t be hungry all day and you would be able to think straight. Those are my main reasons for why Panmure Bridge School should have a cafeteria.☺

Should Panmure Bridge School have a cafeteria? By Angel

Should P.B.S have a school cafeteria?
I believe that Panmure Bridge should have a school cafeteria because it gives an opportunity for a person or student in the community a job.

Firstly, cafeterias can serve healthy foods including sandwiches, fruits, veggies and many more. Healthy foods can give your body and brain the energy to play sports and to get motivated in your learning. The healthy foods that are served in the cafeterias can help the students think straight in their learning. Cafeterias can serve much more healthy food then the shops where you buy pies and chips.

Secondly, It could give an opportunity to a person or a student in the community a job. It can help students count the up the money and learn how to give change back. They also learn how to learn how to serve food and make the foods.

Thirdly, it can save lots of money for parents. Some shops sell food that kids love and adore, but it might be too expensive. In a cafeteria it can save parents lots of money . Some parents might not have that much money to buy their child's lunch at the shops. Some cafeterias might sell foods that are really cheap.

Overall I think that Panmure Bridge School should have a cafeteria because the cafeteria can sell healthy foods, it can give an opportunity to a person or student in the community a job and it could save parents a lot of money. Those are my three reasons why Panmure Bridge School should have a cafeteria.
