On Wednesday September 25th we had our first evening performance of our school production called "This Land". Room 5's item was kindly photographed by Mr Grady. He took some great photos of us performing and they have been made into a slide show. We hope you enjoy looking at our photos. Our costumes and props show up really well under the bright theatre lights.

Our Production Dress Rehearsal - a sneak preview

Today we had our full Dress Rehearsal for the production. It was an exciting time for us as we were able to wear our costumes in front of the lights. We looked spectacular. We were very lucky, one of teachers Mrs Huggins took some photos of us performing. Thank you, Mrs Huggins. We hope you enjoy our presentation.

More of our production costumes

Not all costumes were made all at once. This week sand fly wings were made for Yvette and a cape was painted with moons and stars for Fine - our Goddess of the night Hine Nui i Te Po.

Reflection on Room 5's Production By Tim

Reflection On The Production
What is the storyline of your production?
The storyline of the production is a Maori Legend. The main characters Are Aoraki - Latham, Tu - Patrick, Papa earth mother - Lavinia, Rangi Sky Father - Haliano and The narrator  - Angel. We used flax, tussock grass , fish hats and most importantly the waka for the Aoraki and his brothers. Here is the beginning of the maori legend. Rangi sky father and papa earth mother decided to send their four sons to look at the new earth Before the earth ended. Rangi Sky father handed the waka to Aoraki and his brothers. They went sailing day and night and saw no land. Aoraki was flung onto one of the rocks and his brothers scrambled on top of the waka. The waka turned into a long piece of land. Aoraki and his borthers turned old their hair turned white and the skin hardned up into stone. Aoraki was the highest mountain and his brothers were smaller mountains around him. My role was a fish. I need to where a fish hat and fish gloves.
Who are the actors and who are the backstage hands who makes the props and put things on the stage?
The performers are Room 5. Room 5, Mrs Eeles and Miss Paton put the props/costumes on the stage. Miss Kelly makes the costumes and Room 5 designs and paints the props/costumes. Miss Paton draws the fishes, wings, tussock grass, rocks, bushes, Fish gloves, waka, bird masks, seafood, flowers, trees, and mountains.
What role is Room 5 taking in the school production?
The role that Room 5 is taking in the school production is a class production.
What Props need to be made?
The props that need to be made is Tu’s waka, fish gloves, Fish headband, Bird wings, Seafood, Tu’s back part of the waka.
How are you making the costumes and other props?
We need cardboard, paint, wobbly eyes, glitter, vivids, sellotape, Feathers, Scissors, PVA glue and egg trays. We need those stuff to make the production work.
What role am I?

My role was to create a fish. I designed and created the fish by hand. I painted my fish cobalt and the fin and tail dark blue. I put blue glitter on the fin and the tail. I like my part as a fish.

My Volcanoes Presentation By Lani

My trip to China By Harry

I just got back from a two month holiday from China. This was my first time on a plane that I can remember, my mum and I flew from New Zealand to Australia then directly to China. When we first landed in China we went to a place called Beijing.  Beijing was a very hot place, we went there to stay with some family. We stayed there for a few days, then we caught a train to Datong and stayed with my uncle. Datong wasn’t that hot unlike Beijing, while I was there I visited my aunt a lot so I could use her computer to practice my maths whizz and sumdog since my uncle didn’t have a computer.

While I was away, I got to experience lots of different exciting new foods that were very tasty, we went to a restaurant that had a big giant boiler on the table where we picked our foods then placed them in the boiler so we were able to watch our food being cooked in front of us. During my stay with my uncle, whenever I was out and it ever started to rain I went back to my uncles because I liked staying there since he had lots of dogs and rabbits. He had one rabbit that was so small it could fit in your whole hand, it was a newborn baby rabbit it was so soft and fluffy. When we went to visit a family friend he had lots of birds inside his house, they were very colourful, my uncle also took me to this place with lots of animals. My mum was going to take me to see a giant turtle but I never got the chance to see it.

I was lucky enough that I got to spend lots of time playing with my cousin, who was the same age as me but 10 months older than me. When he came over to my uncles he sometimes brought fun toys with him for us to play with. I got two soft tiger animals and a fish as well as a toy lion, my favourite was my toy lion because it could stand up like a real lion and had little claws. It took so long to get to China by plane, it took a whole day to travel from Australia up to China, the plane was really uncomfortable to sleep on it felt like I never slept the whole time we were flying. The best part of my trip was playing with my cousin and playing video games while I was on the plane, I look forward to my next trip back in two years.

My instructions on how to create a Friedrich Vordemberge Gildewart Painting By Fine

Title:
Instructions on how to create a Friedrich Vordemberge Gildewart painting : Composition NO
Equipment:
* Example of Friedrich Vordemberge Gildewart painting : Composition NO.
*A2 size blank paper
* 1 x 30 cm ruler
* 1 HB pencil
* Eraser
* Different shades of paint - three
* 2 paintbrushes - 1 thick brush & 1 thin brush.
* Old t - shirt ( optional)

Instructions:
1. Plot dots on every 5 cm horizontally on your A2 paper.

2. Place your ruler horizontally against the dots to make a line , now slowly drag your pencil against your ruler to make one big line. Keep doing this, and it should create your lines horizontally across the page.

3.  Plot dots on every 5 cm vertically.

4. Place your ruler vertically against the dots to make a line, now slowly drag your pencil against your ruler to make one big line. Keep doing this, and it should make lines vertically across yor page.

5. Number your boxes so you can use your coordinates. The numbers should be  on the border of your grid, vertically and horizontally. Horizontally the numbers should be up to 11 and vertically it should go up to 8.

6. Starting off will be hard , but to help you use the coordinates I will help you draw the first shape. From (1,3) vertically to (1,4) horizontally, draw your line to make one big triangle.WARNING:Remember these coordinates are at the top left corner.

7.Drawing the next triangle it will be much easier. From there (2,4,) draw the line straight down, this triangle should be inside the triangle we just drew.
WARNING: Remember these coordinates are at in the top left corner, but inside the triangle we just finished.

8. Drawing this triangle won’t be as easy as the last but I’m pretty sure you will be able to finish it. First, you will have to measure ( 7, 2) and then rule it straight down to make a triangle. ( You will also have to draw an outline).
WARNING: Remember these coordinates should make a triangle in the bottom left hand corner.
9.  Make another triangle but bigger than the last few ones. the coordinates should be from (5, 8) vertically and (8, 11) horizontally.

WARNING: Remember these coordinates should make a triangle in the bottom right hand corner.

10. Draw another triangle. These coordinates should be from (8, 9 ).
WARNING: Remember to draw this triangle inside the triangle we just drew.

11. Draw all of the coordinates, you should be able to do the rest.

12. Use your eraser to lightly erase the grid lines once you have finished.
WARNING: Remember not to erase you lines that you are going to paint in.

13. Pick your 3 acrylic colours you are going to use.
WARNING: Remember one of your acrylic colours has to be  white.

14. Paint the three darkest areas on your paper.

15. Continue painting shapes, but they have to be the same shade.
WARNING: Remember to add white throughout all your shades.

16. Paint the shapes outside using a different colour. Use your third acrylic paint to paint the outside shape
WARNING: Remember to your third colour has to be a colour that will stand out.

17. Now, you can do touch ups in case your artwork looks rough.

18. Spray your artwork with hairspray to give it that sparkling look.
